I got detention for espionage in 5th grade

Way back in 5th grade, my friend & I started started doing math homework for the other kids in class.

No, we weren’t being bullied.

We were selling the answers.

We’d work 2-3 days ahead, then charge anyone who asked $5 for the answers to that night’s homework.

We were trading secrets for cash.

Cold hard cash, baby.

You could say it was my first step to becoming an entrepreneur.

It started small, him & I selling to just a couple of others.

But as others found out, they wanted in too.

Pretty soon, we had 7-8 kids doing homework and the other 20-25 kids paying for it. The few of us would alternate who did homework on which nights, that way we were not only making money, but also getting a night or two off each week.

Hell of a system. Anyways…

We ran this nice little scheme for a few weeks, no issue at all. Until one day, the teacher’s pet (nobody liked her) told her parents.

The parents called the teacher, who told the principal, who subsequently told all of our parents.

The gig was up. The next day, all ~30 of us were in detention and the school made at least one of our parents come in and listen to some dumb lecture.

“We don’t condone this type —” blah blah blah.

No shit — of course they didn’t condone it.

But I didn’t care, I saved up enough money to buy every single Guitar Hero that year — never managed to reach Expert level though.
